Die Stiftung Querini Stampalia
Die Stiftung Querini Stampalia wurde nach dem Willen von Graf John, dem letzten Nachfahren der Patrizierfamilie Querini ... Stampalia gegründet. Die Stiftung befindet sich in genau demselben Querini Stampalia Palast aus dem 16. Jh., in dem das Erbe der Familie bewahrt wird. Das Gebäude beherbergt ein Bibliothek mit 340 000 Bänden, einer Sektion mit Manuskripten, Inkunabeln und gedruckten Büchern aus dem 16. Jh., ein Museum mit Möbeln, Porzellan, Bisquen, Skulpturen und Gemälden aus dem 14. bis 20. Jh. Im Inneren der Residenz aus dem 16. Jh. wurde das Erdgeschoss und der Garten in den 60er Jahren von Carlos Scarpa restauriert. Und vor kurzem erst hatte Mario Botta den Eingang, den Buchladen, das Café und das Auditorium neu gestaltet. Die Stiftung veranstaltet Ausstellungen, Konferenzen, Treffen, Seminare und Kollaborationen mit Künstlern, die von der Stiftung eingeladen werden mit der Sammlung zu interagieren. Als Beispiel der eindrucksvollen Kunstsammlung der Stiftung präsentiert ikonoTV Giovanni Bellini's Meisterwerk Präsentation im Tempel von ca. 1469. Das Gemälde konnte erst 1916 Bellini zugeschrieben werden; bis dahin galt es als ein Werk Mantegnas, teilweise wegen der gefälschten Inschrift auf der Rückseite, welche wohl im 18. Jh. hinzugefügt wurde. Die Nähe zu Andreas Mantegnas "Präsentation im Tempel", jetzt in der Gemäldegalerie in Berlin zu sehen, wurde vor allem wegen der starken Ähnlichkeiten in der Komposition gesucht. Ein Vergleich mit früheren Arbeiten des Künstlers ergaben, dass zwischen der Herstellung der beiden Versionen einige Zeit vergangen sein musste, und somit die Version von Querini auf ca. 1469 datiert wurde. Eine Palette an satten Rottönen, der Gebrauch von strahlenden und intensiven Farben gepaart mit starken Kontrasten, und Lichtquellen gleichzeitig oben und unten ansetzend, lassen die venezianischen Wurzeln erkennen. Verschiedene Erklärungen zur Identifikation der Figuren im Querini Stampalia Gemälder wurden aufgestellt; Giovanni und Andrea Mantegna rechts; Nicolosia Bellini und die Mutter des Künstlers, Anna Bellini, links; und vielleicht Jacopo Bellini als Heiliger Joseph oder Hohepriester. Die wunderbaren Vorzeichnungen, die dank der Reflektografie, welche bei der zuletzt ausgeführten Konservierung angewandt wurde, bestätigen die Zuordnung des Gemäldes.

Gerhard Richter, beyond a doubt the most famous German artist of his generation, will be celebrating his eightieth birthday on 9 February 2012. ... To mark the occasion, ikono has compiled a selection on films and trailers on the most important exhibitions around this anniversary. The most important show is being put on view at the New National Gallery in Berlin: Panorama, a retrospective of his work, organized in conjunction with Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. On view are 150 paintings from all periods of the artist's extensive oeuvre, carefully selected together with the artist himself, offer visitors a profound insight into his stylistically and thematically diverse body of work. Several canvases that have long been accepted into the modern canon, such as Ema (1966), the nude descending the stairs, and Betty (1988), whose head is turned away from the viewer, are combined here with rarely seen works and a few that have never been on display before. Parallel to the exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin has installed Richter's 18. Oktober 1977 cycle at the Alte Nationalgalerie. On view at me Collectors Room are the editions 1965-2011. The Olbricht Collection is probably the only private art collection in the world to contain virtually all of Gerhard Richter's editions, spanning a period from 1965 to 2011. In addition, ikono is featuring trailers on Corinna Belz' remarkable documentary on the life and works of Gerhard Richter.

Charlotte Cotton is the creative director of Media Space, a partnership between the Science Museum and the ... National Media Museum, UK that will open in London in 2012. Previously, she was the head of the Wallis Annenberg Department of Photography at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, head of programming at The Photographers' Gallery and curator of photographs at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She is the author of the best selling The Photograph as Contemporary Art and the founder of Wordswithoutpictures.orgFor ikonoTV, she chose the Californian video artist Owen Kydd, who bridges the two worlds of photography and video. He uses a photo-documentary style, but with subjects that move only slightly. Presently his practice consists of making these durational photographs. The artist says about his work: "If there is a potential of video for genre or historical picture making, then the form itself, which is a visual duration, should intervene with the photo-documentary subject. Video may have the potential to both record and disrupt the still image - to introduce elements of the unknown to photography. Instead of mythologizing, dominating or imprisoning moments, it can allow subjects to escape the totalizing nature of the still frame, and can create a new distance from the viewer. (..) With cameras that are now both video and photographic, the line between the two types of image is immediatly blurred with the turn of a dial. I am interested in making video that uses the codes and signifiers of American Documentary Photography, to test this boundary and investigate a new medium's potential to adapt to communities that are in flux."
